Amalienbrunnen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amalienbrunnen is the name of a mineral water from Sömmerda , the source of which has dried up since the late 1970s. The fruit-flavored lemonade Amalienbrunnen was named after this mineral water , which was made from this mineral water and sold in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt in the GDR until the mid-1980s .

It was a clear, colorless, tonic-like lemonade with a subtle fruity aroma, which was last produced and sold from the base material of the Braugold brewery in Erfurt. As the only clear lemonade in Thuringia, it became unpopular in the mid-1980s and was increasingly being replaced by naturally cloudy, colored and much more flavorful lemonades such as Karena . Amalienbrunnen with a fruit flavor were only available in small 250 ml returnable bottles.

history

Since September 1930, a high-quality mineral water called "Amalienbrunnen" has been promoted in Sömmerda , which was drilled by an entrepreneur Erich Landgraf at a depth of about 30 meters, bottled and sold locally with his company "Kobersborn" (high German: Korbmachers Brunnen). The water mainly contained healthy amounts of halogen compounds , including iodine , fluorite and bromine salts , which mineral water was often about at that time. The addition of sugar and natural fruit essences resulted in the clear lemonade "Amalienbrunnen with fruit flavor", which was the company's best seller and was also popular across the region. The flavoring was very subtle and, compared to later produced lemonades, of very little sweetness. It was not reminiscent of certain fruits, but was generally only "fruity".

Until the beginning of the Second World War, the filling quantity was steadily increased to approx. 6 m³ (20,000 bottles) per day. In 1943, further boreholes were made which were supposed to increase the output, but could no longer be used due to the war. Production was not started up again until years after the war, and as early as 1956 the company was working with the state participation of the large Braugold brewery from Erfurt. It was not until 1969 that the capacity was exhausted by installing a new filling plant with an annual output of 2,400 to 4,000 m³. On April 10, 1972, the "Kobersborn" company was converted into a state- owned company and integrated into the Braugold combine. However, the Sömmerda branch had to cease work shortly afterwards, as the source stream broke off due to excessive yield, the water became cloudy and the source dried up completely. The loss was a regional nuisance. In particular, the construction of a road was made responsible for the cloudiness. However, no further drilling was undertaken, the premises were used for catering purposes.

The clear lemonade "Amalie fountain with fruit flavor" was made a few years as a beverage concentrate and distributed, but fell like the Fassbrause in favor of the buyer, as the preferred taste towards natural juices and juice sodas and tonic -Water with real quinine for mixing had changed with alcohol. After production was shut down, clear, colorless lemonade was no longer available in Thuringia until the fall of the Wall .
