Amazon on Horseback (Kiss)
Amazone on horseback , also fighting Amazon or simply Amazon , is a bronze sculpture by the German sculptor August Kiß .
It shows an amazon on a rearing horse who tries to fight a panther with a lance while the panther is jumping into the horse's throat . The sculpture was made in 1842 and placed on the eastern stringer of the staircase leading to the Lustgarten of the Altes Museum in Berlin . On the western Treppenwange the sculpture is lion fighters of Albert Wolff that the counterpart to the Amazon on horseback forms. Both groups of figures weigh about two to three tons each .
