Ambivarites
The Ambivarites ( Latin Ambivariti ) were a Celtic tribe in the later Roman province of Gallia Belgica . Her residence was after Caesar ( Bellum Gallicum 4, 9: ad Ambivaritos trans Mosam ) west of the Meuse . He names this tribe as victims of a raid by the Germanic cavalry of Suebi prince Ariovistus around 58 BC. During the Gallic War . Except at this point with Caesar, this tribe is not mentioned in ancient literature.
The ambivarites must not be confused with the ambivaretes , a clientele of the Haeduer . Birkhan suspects, however, that there was a close relationship between the Ambivaretes and the Ambivarites, since the similarity of names could go back to ancient emigration.
