Ambondro is a coastal community in southern Madagascar . It is administratively subordinate to the district of Ambovombe , which in turn belongs to the Androy region. It is located about 30 kilometers west of the town of Ambovombe on the national road 10 in the direction of Tsiombe . In 1901 a military post of the French colonial power was established in Ambondro. In 2006, around 19,000 inhabitants settled on the 150 square kilometers large municipal area, spread over 23 villages. The community lives mainly from the cultivation of sweet potatoes , corn , cassava and black peas .
