Ambrosius Bosschaert the Younger: Still Life (1627)

Ambrosius Bosschaert [ ˈbɔsχaːɾt ] the Younger, often also Ambrosius Bosschaert II (born March 1, 1609 (date of baptism) in Arnemuiden near Middelburg ; May 19, 1645 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch painter of the " Golden Age ".

life and work

He was the son of Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder and brother of Abraham (1612–1643) and Johannes Bosschaert (1607–1628) and became a painter like his father and his brothers. He first lived with his father in Utrecht and Breda, from whom he received his first training, and after his death was probably trained by his uncle Balthasar van der Ast in Utrecht, where he settled in 1628 and married in 1634.

Bosschaert the Younger only painted still lifes with flowers . The earliest painting he dated is from 1616, the latest known from 1643. Originally he only signed with the monogram AB, which led to confusion with his father, from 1633/34 with “A. Bosschaert ”.
