Ambrozij Andrew Senyshyn OSBM (born February 23, 1903 in Staryj Sambir , Galicia , Austria-Hungary ; † September 11, 1976 in Philadelphia , USA ) was a Ukrainian-American clergyman and archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia .

Life

Ambrozij Andrew Senyshyn was born in 1903 in the city of Staryj Sambir , which is part of today's western Ukrainian administrative unit of Lviv . Senyshyn was ordained a priest on August 23, 1931, at the age of 28.

On July 6, 1942, at the age of 39, he was appointed auxiliary bishop for the ordinariate of the United Byzantine believers in the United States , as well as being appointed titular bishop of Maina . The episcopal ordination took place on October 22, 1942 by Constantine Bohacewskyi . Senyshyn was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Stamford on July 20, 1956, at the age of 53 . He was named Bishop of Stamford on July 10, 1958, at the age of 55.

At the age of 58, on August 14, 1961, Ambrozij Andrew Senyshyn was appointed Archbishop of Philadelphia. Archbishop Senyshyn died there at the age of 73 on September 11, 1976. Archbishop Ambrozij Andrew Senyshyn took part in the Second Vatican Council as a council father . Total Senyshyn was for 45 years as a priest pastoral been active, including 33 years in the episcopate.
