Constantine Bohacewskyi

Constantine Bohacewskyi also Constantine Bohachevsky ( Ukrainian Костянтин Богачевський Kostjantyn Bohatschewskyj , born June 17, 1884 in Manajiw , Ukraine ; † January 6, 1961 in Philadelphia ) was the first metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the United States and Archbishop of Philadelphia .

Life

Constantine Bohacewskyi was ordained a priest on January 31, 1909 and was "Sacrae Theologiae Doctor" (STD = Latin academic title for theologians).

On May 20, 1924, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Amisus and Vicar Apostolic for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the United States. On June 15, 1924, the Ruthenian bishop of Przemyśl, Sambor and Sanok Josaphat Kocylovskyj OSBM donated his episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Administrator of Prešov Bishop Dionisije Njaradi and the Bishop of the Italian-Albanian Church of Lungro degli Italo-Albernesi Giovanni Mele . On April 5, 1954, he was appointed titular archbishop of Beroë . The appointment as metropolitan and archbishop of Philadelphia was proclaimed by Pope Pius XII. on July 10, 1958.
