Ensembles
Ensemble of the town center of Markt Roßtal
The roostal ensemble is delimited by the former castle on the plateau ledge, fortified by a wall , the area of which is also the center of today's market town. The royal state castle was on the line connecting the Franconian royal courts of Würzburg / Riedfeld – Langenzenn – Schwabach. Its castle wall, reinforced with towers, was in function at least during the 9th and 10th centuries. So Rossal, the reinforcement had been modernized in the 10th century, was besieged in vain in 954 in the battle of King Otto I against his son Liudulf. The extent of the ensemble, historically determined by the wall, can also be clearly seen through the topographical situation, the spur location with slopes on the west, north and east sides. This castle complex is all the more important as the "city" of Roßtal remained without fortifications. The viscount of Nuremberg, had passed into the possession of the place in 1281, acquired in 1328 by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian the city right after the Nuremberg model, the Emperor Charles IV. Confirmed.
Nevertheless, the formation of a city in the true sense never came about. Without city fortifications , the fortified churchyard had to serve as protection in times of war. The churchyard around the parish church of St. Lorenz with its early Romanesque crypt from the first half of the 11th century is roughly rectangular delimited by the late medieval churchyard wall, partially interrupted or sitting on it.
In the southeast corner, at the exit to Schulstrasse, the late medieval half-timbered building of the rectory rises. To the north, the churchyard opens up to the market square with a gate tower, which is in front of the castle in the 17th and 18th centuries. Century on the basis of the former building yard or half yard. The slightly sloping square, characterized by half-timbered buildings and the gate tower, opens up towards the castle. Here on the north side, the new town hall creates a nuisance. File number: D-5-73-125-1.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
