Ensembles
Ensemble Burg and Markt Cadolzburg
From the middle of the 13th century, the burgraves of Nuremberg resided in Cadolzburg Castle . Until 1791, when the Franconian principalities passed to Prussia, the castle remained in the possession of the burgraves or later margraves of Ansbach without interruption . The castle is the monumental and historical center of the market town . The extensive complex, which was expanded in the Renaissance period , is dominant on a mountain spur. The outer bailey, a spacious, circular-walled farmyard, the buildings of the 18th and 19th centuries, extends south of the complex, which was burned down to ruin in 1945. Century. These date from the time when Cadolzburg served as the administrative seat of the Oberamts and Rentamt . The market, whose first fortification, predominantly just as a palisade fence, was built from 1443 in connection with the granting of market rights by the Margrave Albrecht Achilles, extends as it were as a second Vorwerk, again in front of the south with a circular floor plan. After pillage in 1449 during the Margrave War, the fortification, which has largely been preserved in its basic features, was expanded to make it more urban. The market place and ensemble consist of a sequence of buildings grouped around inner squares or courtyards, each of which extends ever more spaciously south of the tightly closed castle. The castle, outer bailey and market are each delimited by gate towers from each other and towards the outside. The town hall rises up on the north-east corner of the fortified market on the moat, on the edge of the fortified, but centrally located in relation to the older, unfortified “Tal” settlement. The parish church , a new building by the margravial agricultural inspector Johann David Steingruber , rises in this older, former castle town, characteristically located directly below the castle . With the re-establishment of the market as a second Vorwerk to the castle, it has moved into this position outside the town center, which means that it is also outside the ensemble area. Within the ensemble of Burg and Markt Cadolzburg, the market square should be emphasized; This elongated, slightly rising space, limited at both ends by gate towers, comprises two-storey half-timbered buildings, some of which have massive facades. From the buildings of the 17th / 18th Century, however, some have been replaced by historicizing half-timbered buildings. The development on the streets to the rear, Spoonholzstrasse and Puchtastrasse, is loose, as the fortification of the market also included the associated gardens. Sandstone relief on the castle gate, largest Judensau sculpture (1380–1480, heavily weathered). File number: E-5-73-114-1.
Market consolidation
The former market fortification was built after 1449. It consists of a sandstone ashlar wall with numerous bastions. It has been preserved almost all around the market. File number: D-5-73-114-1.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
