Ensembles
Ensemble Prinzregentenplatz, Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse and Rosenstrasse
The ensemble comprises the center of the old town of Langenzenn around the Prinzregentenplatz (formerly the market square) and the eastern area along Friedrich-Ebert-Straße (formerly Unterer Markt) and Rosenstraße (formerly Hintere Gasse).
A settlement was built around the Franconian royal court of Cenna before 1000, the expansion of which took place around 1200 in the area of the western Upper Market (today Hindenburgstrasse). In the later 13./14. In the 19th century a new central market square was laid out, the place was expanded to the east along the lower market and walled. The first time in 1331 as Langenzenn designated market was 1362-1369 municipal law . During the city war in 1388, the city suffered severe damage. After a fire in 1720, the city was rebuilt with straightened squares and streets in regular forms. The two-storey, eaves-standing sandstone blocks of the 18th / 19th centuries Century create a uniform picture.
The almost right-angled Prinzregentenplatz, sloping towards the northeast, into which streets flow at the corners, is enclosed on three sides. Only on the west side there are two free-standing, slightly sloping hipped roof buildings: next to an inn, the town hall, newly built in 1723, whose predecessor is believed to be in the middle of the square. Behind it, the old parish church of St. Maria dominates the square, probably built in place of the king's church at the royal court on the Kirchenbuck and enlarged in 1388. Between 1409 and the introduction of the Reformation in 1539, it served as the Augustinian canons' church. The convent building with cloister occupies the site of the former Franconian royal court. South of the church, at the beginning of Hindenburgstrasse, is the former cemetery chapel, used as a school with a teacher's apartment after the cemetery was moved in 1609 in front of the Obere Tor.
Friedrich-Ebert-Straße branches off to the northeast from Prinzregentenplatz and leads to the Lower Gate (demolished in 1884). It is part of the connecting road Frankfurt am Main - Nuremberg (today the B 8), which was only diverted via Langenzenn since 1793 . The hospital, which has been occupied since 1382, is located on a square-like extension. The new building from 1536/38, which was once surrounded by small courtyards, was the only one in this area to survive the city fire. All other buildings were rebuilt after 1720, two-storey, eaves, in closed rows. The southern parallel street, Rosenstrasse, formerly also called Hintere or Judengasse, because the Jewish quarter with the synagogue was located here, shows the same uniform development. Behind the property along the north side of Friedrich-Ebert-Straße and the south side of Rosenstraße are remnants of the city fortifications, which were restored after 1388 and describe the boundaries of the ensemble in the western section. File number: E-5-73-120-2.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The monument property - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the monument atlas or the entry in the Bavarian monument list. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
