Joaquín Alberto del Olmo Blanco (born April 20, 1969 in Tampico , Tamaulipas ), also known by the nickname El Jaibo (the cancer ), is a former Mexican soccer player who mainly played in midfield and currently works as a soccer coach .
Life
society
Joaquín del Olmo began his professional career in the 1988/89 season with his hometown club Tampico-Madero FC , for which he played until 1990. Even after his move, he stayed in the Gulf of Mexico for another four years and played in the ranks of the Tiburones Rojos until 1994 in the port city of Veracruz, south of Tampico . He then moved to the capital club Club America , for which he played until the winter break of the 1996/97 season. The second half of the same season he spent in the Netherlands , where he was under contract with Vitesse Arnheim . There he brought it, however, only to seven missions and one hit, so that he returned to Mexico before the 1997/98 season, where he was under contract first with Club Necaxa and then with the Tigres de la UANL . The most successful period of his playing career he had at his last station, the Pumas de la UNAM , with whom he won both championships in 2004: first for the 2003-04 season belongs Apertura 2004 and then to the 2004/05 season belonging Clausura 2004 .
National team
Del Olmo made his debut in the dress of the Mexican national team on June 29, 1993 in a friendly against Costa Rica, which was won 2-0.
His first international goal was against the USA on October 13, 1993 (1-1). He scored two more international goals on May 29, 1996 against Japan (2: 3) and on April 13, 1997 against Jamaica (6: 0).
Del Olmo had his last international appearance in a World Cup qualifier played on June 16, 2001 , which was lost to Costa Rica (1: 2).
The highlight of his international playing career was his participation in the soccer World Cup 1994 , in which he played all three preliminary round matches of the Mexicans against Norway (0: 1), Ireland (2: 1) and Italy (1: 1) in full.
Trainer
El Jaibo del Olmo began his coaching career with the Correcaminos de la UAT , where he initially acted as an assistant coach and later as head coach. After a series of seven games without a win, he was dismissed and received in May 2009 a contract as head coach with the Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz. After a season in Veracruz, he received a contract with the Xoloitzcuintles de Tijuana for the 2010/11 season , with whom he immediately won the 2010 Apertura.
