history

Seckendorf is the origin of the family of the same name Seckendorff ( Seckendorf Castle ), which was first mentioned in a document with Heinrich von Seckendorff on May 1, 1254 and with the brothers Arnold, Burkhard and Ludwig von Seckendorff on October 16, 1259. The family is widely ramified and has played a key role in the Franconian region for centuries. The meaning of the place name is unclear: A derivation from the Low German word “segge” (= sedge, reed) or the personal name Sacco is possible.

At the end of the 18th century there were nine properties in Seckendorf. The high court and the village and community rulership was exercised by the Brandenburg-Ansbach municipal bailiff's office in Langenzenn . The landlords were the Cadolzburg caste office (one half courtyard ), the Cadolzburg church (one quarter courtyard ) and the imperial city of Nuremberg : Landesalmosenamt (two courtyards, two half courtyards, one quarter courtyard), St. Klara monastery office (one courtyard, one quarter courtyard). In 1802 there were seven properties in the village.

As part of the community edict, Seckendorf was assigned to the Seukendorf tax district formed in 1808 and the Horbach rural community founded in the same year .

Seckendorf was in the context of municipal reform is the only village in the municipality Horbach on 1 May 1978 after Cadolzburg reclassified.
