occupation

Amer , also Amer - a nightmare of fear and desire (DVD title 2012) and Amer - The dark side of your dreams (DVD title 2010), (Original title: Amer ) is a French - Belgian thriller by the directors Hélène Catti and Bruno Forzani from 2009.

The film is assigned to the so-called Giallogenre and has horror elements, but is not a classic horror film . It contains surreal productions and only a few dialogues - in many cases there is no background music. Additional tension is created by means of perspectives, cuts, color variations and picture montages. The episode film, which is divided into three storylines, lists in chronological order scenes from the life of the protagonist at different ages - as a child, as a teenager and as an adult.

The French word amer means bitter .

action

Scenes from the life of Ana are presented in three separate episodes:

  • Childhood : Ana is confronted with death and sexuality. She lives in a big house with her parents. Your grandfather died and is lying in a room. She looks at the corpse and takes her grandfather's watch. A veiled person approaches from behind and clasps the child. The dead man is shown with his eyes open. Ana escapes and then watches her parents having sex. The episode is about 30 minutes long.
  • Youth : Ana accompanies her mother to the neighboring village. The productions are emphatically erotic, but not vulgar or sexist. At around 15 minutes, this episode is the shortest.
  • Adulthood : This episode takes up half the length of the movie. Ana gets off a train at a provincial train station and takes a taxi to her parents' house. She is there alone. She takes a bath and panic. She touches a hand in her sleep. She wakes up and her legs are covered in blood. A man approaches the house at night. There is a fight. A razor is staged several times bloody - the passages are partly colored in shades of blue. The action ends with erotic fantasies.

The film doesn't tell a continuous story. Rather, the plot is very fragmentary and consists of individual scenes assembled one behind the other, which, however, show a chronological order. It is up to the viewer to decide what is reality and what is the protagonist's hallucination .

Reviews

The internet portal cinema.de comments: “A masterpiece that almost doesn’t use language, visually and acoustically created atmosphere”.

The portal negativ-film.de criticizes the plot of the film and sums it up: "The directors Hélène Catti and Bruno Forzani may not have shot a Giallo , but a declaration of love for it". The situation is similar kriminalakte.wordpress.com and remarks on the content: "As a feature film of surreal experimental film bored ... and more".

From the perspective of the horror film, horrorpilot.com comments : “ Amer delivers great pictures, an atmosphere that fluctuates between fear and latent lust and the use of a razor that brings tears of joy to the eyes of every horror fan, but at the same time the film is ... partly just exhausting."

The internet portal schnittberichte.com categorizes: “ Amer is ultimately not a classic Giallo , in which the uncovering of a series of murders is in the foreground. As a Neo-Giallo, he reduces this genre to its essential motifs - fear, sexuality and violence ... ”.

Awards

The production has received several international nominations and awards. Hélène Catti and Bruno Forzani won the Public's Choice Award at the Montréal Festival of New Cinema in 2009 . In 2012 the production was nominated for the Chainsaw Award .
