history
The journal first appeared in July 1916 and was published by the Philadelphia Mineralogical Society , the New York Mineralogical Club, and the Mineral Collectors' Association . On December 30, 1919, the Mineralogical Society of America was founded, which took over the editorial board of the American Mineralogist .

The American Mineralogist is indexed in Chemical Abstracts , the Science Citation Index , GeoRef and Inspec . In 2017 the impact factor was 2.63.
