American Vandal is an American television series, the first season of which was released worldwide on September 15, 2017 on Netflix . The series parodies true crime documentary series like Making a Murderer and Serial in the style of a mockumentary . The idea for American Vandal came from Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, with Dan Lagana acting as showrunner .
In October 2017, Netflix announced the order for an eight-part second season, which was released on September 14, 2018. In October 2018, the discontinuation of the series after two seasons became known.

After one session, high school teachers found that all the cars in the school parking lot had an image of a penis sprayed on them, causing thousands of dollars in damage. The class clown Dylan Maxwell, who had previously been noticed by drawing penis pictures and was seen by a witness at the crime scene, is immediately suspected and finally expelled from school.
School newspaper reporter Peter Maldonado wants to find out the truth and is shooting a documentary in which he investigates who is really behind the vandalism.

criticism
American Vandal received frequent positive reviews, including Rotten Tomatoes with 97% of 29 reviews. In The Ringer , Mark Titus praised the show's subtle humor and realistic portrayal of the school. Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times described American Vandal as the perfectly proportioned pastiche of the crime documentary series. Steve Greene from Indiewire praised the authenticity of the presentation.
But there were also negative voices, according to Felix Böhme from Serienjunkies.de, the first episode turns out to be "extremely uncomfortable and like a shoddy gag that is unnecessarily drawn out".
