Ames is a small town in Liberty County in the US state of Texas in the United States of America .

The city is located in southeast Texas on the Leon River , about 80 kilometers to the east from Louisiana , about 60 kilometers to the south from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of ​​8.2 km², without any significant water surface. The distance to Houston in the southwest is approximately 80 kilometers.

history

The city was named after William Ames , an early settler in the area and later a railway official. The first post office opened in 1893 and the first telephone connection was established in 1905. The place only got a connection to the public power grid in 1941. The school, which until then had been looked after by two teachers, closed in 1940 and the students were driven to neighboring Gatesville every day . The post office was closed in 1957, as was the only church on site.
