Amnesty International Film Award
The Amnesty International Film Prize is awarded by the human rights organization Amnesty International . Films are awarded that convincingly portray the human rights situation today.
history
The prize was first awarded at the Berlinale in 2005 and has been annually since then . It is currently endowed with 5,000 euros (2016), previously with 2,500 euros.
Amnesty International writes: “Films can help to explain human rights and to publicize and denounce human rights violations.” At the same time, the award recognizes the sometimes life-threatening commitment of filmmakers.
The Amnesty International Film Prize is also awarded at international film festivals in The Hague (Netherlands), Copenhagen (Denmark), Pesaro (Italy) and Thessaloniki (Greece).
