Among the Prey is a Finnish metalcore and melodic death metal band from Jyväskylä , which was founded in 2013.
history
The band was founded in 2013 by guitarist, singer and bassist Iiro Kuntsi. A short time later, his friend Atte Palokangas joined them as a drummer and they went to the studio. The result was the demo My Demons in 2014 , which consists of the title track and the song This Time . After the band signed a record deal with Inverse Records , the debut album Only for the Blinded Eyes was released in 2016 . This shows Kuntsi as a singer and guitarist, the drummer Palokangas as well as the bassist Toni Keskinen and the guitarist Joni Laine as cast.
style
Reini from stormbringer.at wrote in his review of My Demons that you can hear a common mixture of Thrash Metal and Metalcore. The singing sounds monotonous and it cannot be assigned to either Death Metal or Metalcore. Tobias Dahs from Powermetal.de assigned the band to Melodic Death Metal in his review of Only for the Blinded Eyes . The song Smile is reminiscent of Djent bands through the rhythm guitars , so that the group here sounds more like Meshuggah than At the Gates . The growls and shouts would also bring back memories of Meshuggah frontman Jens Kidman. In the following songs the band is sometimes more melodic, sometimes closer to typical Death Metal. Andriana of pigsquealsandbreakdowns.com also reviewed the album. The band play melodic death metal and combine classic metalcore with melodic riffs . The vocals and partly the guitar sound would be reminiscent of Threat Signal or, as far as the guitars are concerned, Bleeding Through . The group also occasionally make use of breakdowns . The group also occasionally uses groove metal influences.
