Threat Signal is a metal band from Hamilton, Ontario , ( Canada ). The band was formed in 2003. Main influences for the band are Fear Factory , Soilwork , Pantera , Meshuggah and Devin Townsend .

history

The cousins Jon and Rich Howard formed the band in late 2003. A short time later, Kyle McKnight joined. The trio began recording demos on their home PC .

Singer Jon Howard

In April 2004 the song "Rational Eyes" was published on the Internet platform "Garageband.com". At this point in time the band doesn't have a name. However, since you need one to register, Jon Howard provisionally gives the name Threat Signal. Kyle McKnight shouldn't like this name to this day. After a few weeks, the song occupied the top position on the local metal charts. Motivated by this success, three more songs were released on the same platform with “One Last Breath”, “Inane” and “A New Beginning”, which also received positive feedback. With Marco Bressette, a permanent bassist joined the band. At the end of 2004 Threat Signal was represented with “Rational Eyes” on the “Unerhört!” Sampler by the German rock-hard magazine. On this sampler, the magazine presents the best newcomers of the year.

Fear Factory guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers became aware of Threat Signal through her band photographer . In Los Angeles Olde Wolbers produced the debut album "Under Reprisal". In the meantime the band signed a contract with the German record company Nuclear Blast . In December 2005 the American George Parfitt (drums) completed the line-up. He moved to Hamilton from his hometown Buffalo especially for the band .

"Under Reprisal" will be released on May 26, 2006 and has so far received a positive response from music critics . The album took third place in the June soundcheck of the rock-hard magazine , and Threat Signal was featured on the monthly metal hammer sampler "Maximum Metal" with the newly recorded "Rational Eyes". On August 1, 2006, Rich Howard left the band. Bass player Marco Bressette then took over the vacated guitar position. After a short search, Pat Kavanagh became the new bass player in September 2006.

In March 2007 Marco finally left the band to devote himself to other things. From January 2008 Adam Weber took over the position on guitar. There were also several line-up changes in 2008. For now, however, it seems that a fixed line-up has been found.

Due to the many member changes, the album Vigilance was released on September 11th, 2009, like its predecessor under the record label Nuclear Blast. As with the previous song, the songs are both melodic, but also contain the characteristics of modern metal . This time Jon Howard produced the album himself. In July 2010, the band announced that Adam Weber had left the band, whereupon guitarist Kris Norris stepped in for a few concerts at short notice. In September of the same year, drummer Norman Killeen also left the band. He was replaced by Alex Rüdinger. The band also introduced Chris Feener as the new guitarist, with whom they played the 2010 Threat Over Europe Tour between November and December 2010 .

Then came the year 2011 when they released their latest work "Threat Signal" on October 7th. Again under Nuclear Blast. Opinions and reviews differed widely on this album. And in the following year 2012 the quite new drummer Alex Rüdinger left the band, according to his own statement, because a lot has changed for him in the last few months and he has to devote himself to new projects.

In May 2015, guitarist Matt Perrin, who had played with the band as a session musician since 2013, was firmly integrated into the group. In December of the same year the band signed a record deal with the Agonia Records label and announced their fourth album Disconnect for 2016. However, the release of the album has been delayed, so it was announced for November 10, 2017.

Trivia

George (drummer) suggested the band name "Abortion Machine" to Jon Howard. Howard still doesn't know if it's the best or worst band name he's ever heard. Jon Howard and Pat Kavanagh were also active in the band Arkaea in 2009 .

The guitarist Matt Perrin, who has been firmly integrated into the band since 2015, is also active in the deathcore band Angelmaker .
