Ampedus Nigrinus is a beetles from the family of click beetles (Elateridae), which occurs from Western Europe to Siberia.

features

Ampedus nigrinus reaches a body length of 6 to 8.5 (7 to 9) millimeters. It belongs to the somewhat smaller species of this genus. It is solid black, but with reddish-brown tarsi (feet) and rails (lower legs).

A distinguishing feature of the very similar species Ampedus auripes (Reitter 1895) can be its antenna, whose second and third, comparatively thinner, antenna elements are together smaller than their fourth segment. The pronotum also has only a weak central furrow, if at all.

Occurrence

Ampedus nigrinus can be observed from the Pyrenees across Central and Northern Europe to Siberia . In Central Europe, the click beetle is more likely to be found in the north, towards the south and west it becomes rarer and occurs there almost only in the montane altitudes of the mountains. Its larvae can be found in the moist wood of the pine and other coniferous wood, but also in alder , oak and other hardwood in mixed forests.

Way of life

The larvae reside in rotten (core) wood of pine and birch. They pupate in autumn. The adult beetle (Imago) overwinters in the pupa.

As pheromone components of Ampedus Nigrinus was 2-methylbut-3-en-2-ol detected, also in smaller quantities cis -Verbenol and ipsdienol .
