Sportunion CityCenter Amstetten Falcons is an Austrian basketball team from Amstetten founded in 1986 under the name UBBC Amstetten .

overview

The team has had its current name since the 2002/03 season. Common abbreviations are Amstetten Falcons , or simply the "Falcons" (after the heraldic animal) or "Falcons". The club has played in the Upper Austrian regional league since it was founded and in the second highest Austrian division, the 2nd Austrian Basketball Bundesliga, since the 2007/08 season . The Falcons' greatest successes include three Upper Austrian national championship titles as well as fifth place in the 2nd Austrian Basketball Bundesliga in the 2008/09 season and participation in the quarter-finals of the Austrian Basketball Cup in the 2007/08 season.

history

1970-1999

The founding fathers were a group of athletes from nearby Grein on the Danube, where basketball had been practiced in the championship since 1979. The reason for the move from Grein to Amstetten was due to the small Greiner hall, which no longer complied with the regulations of the basketball rules. A replacement was found in the gymnasium in Amstettner Gymnasium. In 1986 the Union Basketball Club (UBBC) Amstetten was founded as an independent section of the Amstettner Sportunion. As early as the 1990s, the UBBC had drawn attention to the multiple regional league top scorer Andreas Kastenhofer, but it was never enough to win the title in the country's top division. Towards the end of the 1990s, Amstettner basketball was characterized by promotion and relegation between the Upper Austrian regional league and the 1st class.

2000-2010

In response to the foreseeable problems in the area of the number of players and the financing, intensive work was carried out on a new concept in the 2001/02 season, which was implemented for the first time in the following 2002/03 season. The "Sportunion AGes-Bau Amstetten Falcons" were born - with a new look, a new dress, a new hall and a new board. Thanks to a sponsorship concept, a long-term cooperation could be entered into with many supporters, which increased the planning security of those responsible for the section. This made it possible to implement long-term concepts such as youth and trainer work. On a sporting level, coach René Bremböck took over the coaching agendas for the Falcons A-team, a first step towards "professionalization". The objectives of the first seasons began with the establishment in the Upper Austrian regional league. With increasing success and athletic performance, it was then the declared goal from the 2006/07 season to bring the Upper Austrian provincial championship title to Amstetten for the first time. A goal that could already be realized for the first time in the following 2007/08 season. Since then, the Amstetten Falcons Sports Union have been the undefeated champions in Upper Austria.

On January 18, 2007, the basketball section became a separate branch of the Amstetten Sports Union . The redesign of the 2nd Austrian Basketball Bundesliga in the 2007/08 season opened up an opportunity for the Amstetten basketball community to raise their sporting and organizational goals even further. The Falcons were there right from the start and in their first season they finished 6th in the East Division. Already in the next season 2008/09 the Falken could reach the 5th place of the entire 2nd Austrian Basketball Bundesliga . This also represents the high point in the second highest division so far.
