Erkelenz is the seat of the Erkelenz District Court , which is responsible for the cities of Erkelenz, Hückelhoven and Wegberg in the eastern district of Heinsberg . Around 114,000 people live in the 263 km² judicial district . The Erkelenz District Court is also responsible for agricultural matters in the districts of Erkelenz, Geilenkirchen and Heinsberg . The neighboring district courts are Grevenbroich , Heinsberg, Jülich , Mönchengladbach , Mönchengladbach-Rheydt and Viersen .

Superior courts

The regional court superordinate to the Erkelenz District Court is the Mönchengladbach Regional Court , which in turn is subordinate to the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court .
