history
Through the judicial reform of the German Empire in 1877, the then existing district court was connected to the Helmstedt District Court. As a result of the regional reform in the 1970s, the judicial district of the Helmstedt District Court was gradually expanded: On July 1, 1973, the Schöningen District Court was dissolved and its district was added to the Helmstedt District Court. In the following year the same thing happened with the Königslutter district court. The last expansion of the judicial district took place on January 1, 1983, when the Helmstedt District Court also took over responsibility for the municipality of Lehrer , which had previously belonged to the district of the Braunschweig District Court.
