Courthouse

The courthouse, built in 1679, served mainly noble families as a residence in the 18th and 19th centuries. Since 1830 the building has been inhabited exclusively by lawyers. On January 27, 1874, the state government of the Duchy of Braunschweig bought the building in order to provide new offices for the ducal city court of Wolfenbüttel. With the entry into force of the Courts Constitution Act of 1877, the city court was transformed into today's district court.
