The Riesa District Court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction in today's Riesa district of Gröba and one of a total of 30 district courts in the Free State of Saxony .

Seat and District of the Court

The judicial district of the Riesa district court includes the former Riesa-Großenhain district ( Section 1, Paragraph 4, Annex No. 21 of the Saxon Justice Act). The court has its seat at Lauchhammerstrasse 10. The District Court of Dresden is directly superordinate to the District Court of Riesa, the competent Higher Regional Court is the Higher Regional Court of Dresden .

The court are also subject which in former Riesa-Großenhain located arbitration with their magistrates .

history

In 1850 the privilege of patrimonial jurisdiction of the Riesa manor passed to the Saxon state. The newly created district corresponded to the old district of Riesa and was expanded to include 43 communities (including Bloßwitz , Nünchritz , Forberge and Zschaiten ). Since the first district court building soon turned out to be too small, the state had a courthouse built on Albertstrasse (from 1922 on Klosterstrasse) in 1896, which was moved into the following year and which now houses the Riesa police station. For a few decades the district court was to have its seat in a building on Robert-Koch-Strasse that was demolished in 2000. In 1999 it moved to the former administration building of the steel mill.

building

The building was erected in 1909 as a symmetrically designed representative building with side gables and roof turrets, which is stylistically positioned between late historicism and reform style . It was initially used as the administration building of the Riesa steel and rolling mill and was handed over to the court in 1999. The front garden is enclosed by the remains of the former enclosure and contains two sculptures on the main access route that were created between 1935 and 1945 and are listed (property number 08965460). The building was renovated from 1999 to 2004 and is now also a listed building (property number 08965459).

It also got a new extension, for which the rohdecan architects from Dresden were responsible. The new extension received the architecture prize of the State Association of Saxony of the Federation of German Architects in 2004 due to the emphasis on the "functionality of the legal system" . In 2008, however, shortcomings became known that led to an evidence preservation procedure.
