Amy Alcott

Amy Alcott (born February 22, 1956 in Kansas City / Missouri ) is an American professional golfer . She has been participating in the LPGA Tour since 1975 and has won five major women's tournaments (including the US Women's Open 1980) and a total of 29 LPGA tour events. She has been a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame (since 1999) and of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (since 2000) .

Career

In 1973, Amy Alcott won the US Junior Championship, her most important success as an amateur. In 1975 she became a professional golfer.

Amy Alcott won a total of 29 tournaments on the LPGA tour. Her first win came in 1975 with the Orange Blossom Classic , and in 1975 she was also named Rookie of the Year . Her first victory in a major tournament was in 1979 when she won the Peter Jackson Classic . It was followed by victory at the US Women's Open in 1980 . In 1983, 1988 and 1991 she won the Nabisco Dinah Shore tournament , the 1991 win was also her last win on the tour.

Her most successful years with a total of four tournament victories were 1979, 1980 and 1984. In 1983 she was the sixth professional golfer with a career prize money of over 1 million US dollars, and in 1988 she was third, surpassing the 2 million US dollar Brand, in 1994 her career prize pool rose to over $ 3 million. During her playing days, she earned a total of 3.4 million US dollars in prize money.

In the 2000s she worked several times as a co-designer on new golf courses.
