Cristie Kerr (born October 12, 1977 in Miami ) is an American professional golfer . She won the United States Women's Open Championship in 2007 and the LPGA Championship in 2010 .

Career

Amateur

Kerr was born in Miami , Florida . She has been playing golf since she was eight. During her very successful amateur career, she won the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship in 1994 and the Women's Western Amateur Tournament in 1995 . In 1995 she was named Player of the Year for the American Junior Golf Association . She was the best amateur at the US Women's Open and played in the 1996 Curtis Cup .

As an amateur, she won a professional tournament on the Futures Tour for the first time in April 1995 .

Kerr's game is distinguished by its ability in putting out. In 2005 she finished in the top ten in half of the tournaments she competed in. In the LPGA points ranking she was second behind Annika Sörenstam . In 2010 she won two of the first ten tournaments on the LPGA Tour, including the LPGA Championship . On June 28, 2010, she rose to first place in the women's world rankings and held that position for three weeks. The gap between her and the new first place winner averaged 0.0006 points.

Private life

Kerr is committed to the fight against breast cancer . One of their sponsors donates money to their Breast Cancer Foundation for every third or better place. She is married and lives in Arizona with her husband .
