Amy Shira Teitel (born March 7, 1986 in Toronto , Ontario , Canada) is a Canadian-American popular science writer and journalist.

Life

Amy Shira Teitel was born in Toronto, but has lived in California for several years. She completed a BA in the History of Science and Technology from the University of King's College, Halifax, Nova Scotia . Amy Shira Teitel is a writer and space historian. Under the channel name "Vintage Space" she deals with the history of space travel on YouTube and in podcasts . She has also written and commented on articles for The Daily Beast , National Geographic , Discovery News, Scientific American, Ars Technica , Al Jazeera English, and Popular Science . She co-hosts the Discovery Channel's online DNews . Amy Shira Teitel describes herself as a "professional space nerd, " and according to The Sydney Morning Herald, the popularity of her YouTube channel has also led her to become something of a "science show girl on mainstream television".

Her first book, based on her research for her master's thesis "Breaking the Chains of Gravity" (Bloomsbury 2015), tells the story of the emerging space program in the USA. It was her debut book, and Kirkus Reviews called it a "must see" for anyone interested in the early history of space exploration. “ Booklist called it a“ good debut author. ”The book describes the early rocket pioneers in the late 1920s up to the founding of NASA.
