Life

Fanny Chollet's grandfather was a civilian professional pilot and her father works in the same profession, which aroused her interest in aviation and the pilot profession. In 2009, at the age of 17, she therefore took part in the pre-flight training ( SPHAIR ) of the Swiss Air Force . Chollet graduated from the Gymnase de Chamblandes in Pully in 2010 with a high school diploma in biology and chemistry. After graduating from high school, she embarked on a military career with the Swiss Air Force and in 2011 completed her basic training at the Payerne , Dübendorf and Alpnach military airfields . In 2012 she was promoted to lieutenant and has since been employed as a professional soldier in the Swiss Air Force. There she began the first part of her pilot training in pilot class 11 in Emmen and completed this with the civil professional pilot license at Swiss Aviation Training (SAT, now Lufthansa Aviation Training) and in 2015 with a Bachelor in Aviation at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ( ZHAW) in Winterthur . Training on the PC-7 and PC-21 turboprop aircraft followed in one-year phases . In early 2018, Chollet was promoted to first lieutenant and trained for the F / A-18 in the simulator and for F / A-18D two-seaters. She completed her first solo flight in an F / A-18C (single seater) in mid-March 2018. In the autumn of the same year, she completed the Scotnight night flight campaign of the Swiss Air Force in Scotland .

At the beginning of 2019, Chollet completed her training on the F / A-18. Chollet is the tenth female military pilot in Switzerland, but all of her predecessors were helicopter pilots. Chollet is the first Swiss female fighter jet pilot. The training of female fighter jet pilots was only made possible in 2004 by a change in the law.

Since completing her training in 2019, Chollet has been assigned to the Fliegerstaffel 18 in Payerne as an F / A-18 pilot and also provides her task with protecting the World Economic Forum (WEF), the air police service of the Swiss Air Force and the QRA ( Quick Reaction Alert ) armed F / A-18.
