Amyntor (son of Ormenus)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amyntor ( Greek  Ἀμύντωρ ) is a figure in Greek mythology . He is the son of Ormenus and was ruler in Dolopia.

With his wife Cleobule he had two sons, Phoinix and Krantor , as well as Astydameia , a lover of Heracles , as their daughter . For the sake of his mother, he slept with Amyntor's lover in order to dissuade her from him. The deceived one called the Erinyen so that his son could not father any offspring. Zeus and Persephone fulfilled the curse. Phoinix then planned to kill his father, but refrained from doing so and fled. Amyntor gave his son Krantor to Peleus , who had defeated him in the war, as a pledge for peace.

Amyntor's leather helmet , studded with boar teeth, was stolen by Autolycus and passed into the possession of Odysseus via Amphidamas , Molos and Meriones .
