Etymology and history

Lanter is a common form of landwehr . However, according to Wilhelm Engels, there is no documentary evidence or archaeological evidence in this area.

The location arose from a court that was already recorded under these names on maps from the 19th century. The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 records the location now consisting of two houses under the name Lanter .

In 1815/16 there are twelve inhabitants. In 1832, An der Lanter belonged to the Mirker Rotte of the rural outskirts of the parish and the city of Elberfeld . The place, categorized as Kotten according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had two residential buildings and two agricultural buildings at the time. At that time, 14 residents lived in the place, two Catholic and twelve Protestant faith.

In the vicinity of An der Lanter were the contemporary courtyards and localities An der Roster , Am Gebrannten , Am Winkel , Am Lübertshäuschen , Bratwurst and An der Schneis , which today have mostly also merged into the urban development. On the Wuppertal city map from 1930, An der Lanter is still labeled as a separate location, after which the location name is no longer used. To the east of An der Lanter, the coal route ran between Sprockhövel and the then independent town of Elberfeld , today's Kohlstrasse .
