The Anacostia River is a river in the United States that also flows through the capital Washington, DC and there flows into the Potomac River .

It has a length of 13.5 km and has its source in Prince George's County, Maryland . Pollution and little investment contributed to the river becoming unsightly. This is how it got its nickname "DC's forgotten river". On the river is the Washington Navy Yard and the former headquarters of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service .
