Anatoly Vladimirovich Sassov

Anatoly Wladimirowitsch Sassow ( Russian Анатолий Владимирович Засов ; born October 3, 1941 in Borisoglebsk, Yaroslavl Oblast ) is a Russian astrophysicist , astronomer and university professor .

Life

After attending secondary school, Sassow studied at the physics faculty of Lomonossow University Moscow (MGU) with graduation in 1964. After graduation, he joined the Sternberg Institute for Astronomy (GAISch) at MGU as a laboratory assistant . He defended his candidate dissertation in 1970 and his doctoral dissertation in 1989. In 1990 he became professor of the chair for astrophysics and stellar astronomy at MGU and head of the department for extragalactic astronomy at GAISch. In the 1970s and 1980s he pioneered the study of the kinetics of spiral nebulae .

Sasov works with the Special Observatory for Astrophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Faculty of Physics at the Volgograd State University . He is the author of more than 150 scientific papers and co-author of textbooks. He is a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and worked on its commission for 28 galaxies and various divisions.
