action

The high school student Kokone Morikawa is about to graduate and is wondering which university she will go to afterwards. In her dreams she travels to the fantastic heartland , where everything revolves around cars and the king resides in a car factory. His daughter Ancien, in whose role Cocoons slips in a dream, can breathe life into machines with her magical tablet . But after she did that on the Bear Joy and the motorcycle Heart, she was banished to a tower by her father. The land is threatened by gigantic monsters made from molten metal, against which giant robots are sent into battle. Ancien wants to support the fight with her tablet against her father's will and is teaming up with the biker Peach. During this time, Bewan's adviser intrigues against the Ancien and his king. In addition to her wild dreams, Kokone is plagued by the fact that her father Momotarō told her so little about her deceased mother. And otherwise the auto mechanic is eccentric and closed. When Kokones childhood friend Morio - shortly before the start of the Olympic Games in Tokyo - returns from his first year at university, Momotarō is suddenly arrested for allegedly stealing a car. He is said to have stolen a Shijima Motors vehicle along with company secrets. While he is in custody, his home is searched by company agent Watanabe. Momotarō warns his daughter not to give him his damaged tablet and her plush bear. Together with Morio, Kokone escapes on her father's motorcycle. They discover the business card of Isshin Shijima, the boss of Shijima Motors, and decide to travel to see him. In the process, Kokone discovers that her mother Izumi was the daughter of Isshin Shijima. On the way they spend the night in a motorcycle and travel together to Heartland in their sleep, where they travel through the air on a motorcycle. The next day they find themselves in Osaka, where they drove their motorcycle on their own.

For the further journey to Tokyo, they unexpectedly receive tickets for the Shinkansen on their tablet. Arrived at their destination, Morio meets technicians from Shijima Motors, who were in contact with Momotarō via the tablet and thus also procured their tickets for the two of them. Momotarō had previously worked for them and developed self-driving cars with his wife . However, her research was rejected by Ikumi's father and after her death, Momotarō left the company. The technicians stayed in contact with him and wanted to help him. Kokone experiences another Heartland dream, in which she has become an observer. She sees Ancien's attempt to animate a robot with her tablet fails and Ancien falls to her death. She vows to help Peach one last time. Her tablet falls with her and is recovered by Peah. Kokone understands that the Heartland stories her father used to tell her and dreams about are really stories about her parents. After the dream, she confronts Isshin Shijima, who regrets dealing with her parents. The company is now in crisis and urgently needs the research results on self-driving cars. Watanabe joins them, who like Bewan had intrigued against Isshin Shijima in Heartland. In Heartland, Bewan wants to seize power by sabotaging the king and saving the country from the monster himself. But Bewan and Watanabe have Isshin Shijima arrested. While Bewan sabotages the robots in a last attempt to implement his plan, Peach is able to save the country at the wheel of the last robot and with the help of the magic tablet. In the real world, Momotarō and Kokons fall in the Shijima Motors building, just like Ancien did in Heartland. But the motorcycle Heart catches her fall. The family from Isshin Shijima, his son-in-law and his granddaughter are reunited and the company can get the software developed by him and his wife from Momotarō to overcome their crisis.
