Ancylis mitterbacheriana is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of Winder (Tortricidae).
features
Ancylis mitterbacheriana has a wingspan of 12 to 16 millimeters. The forewings have a light red-pink basic color. The posterior basal and discal region is colored with a darker red-brown shade. This area is closed off by a white border on the side. Furthermore, there is a narrow white-purple-brown striped area on the leading edge near the wing tip. The hind wings are dark beige in color.
distribution
Ancylis mitterbacheriana is native to the western Palearctic . It occurs in much of Europe including the British Isles and Asia Minor . In contrast, the species is absent on the Iberian Peninsula.
Way of life
The butterflies can be found in and on the edge of deciduous forests. They fly from late April to June. They are occasionally found sitting on leaves during the day. However, the moths are mainly dormant and nocturnal. The caterpillars develop in a coiled leaf on oak ( Quercus ) and beech ( Fagus ) as well as apple trees ( Malus ). The species overwinters as a pupa.
