Christian Philipp Schleyer

Christian Philipp Schleyer (born February 4, 1772 in Berleburg , Wittgenstein district , † May 6, 1844 in Torgau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and most recently 2nd in command of Torgau Fortress .

Life

origin

His parents were Peter Werner Salomon Schleyer and his wife Rebekka Adelheid Konstanze Franziska von Metting (* February 27, 1742, † January 18, 1776). His father was a Dutch lieutenant colonel , later in the service of Nassau-Orange .

career

He got his education at the school in Halberstadt . On March 1, 1787 he went into Dutch service and came as an ensign in the Hereditary Prince Regiment . In 1787 he saw the Prussian invasion of Holland . On December 6, 1793, he became the Seconde Lieutenant promoted. From 1794 to 1795 he fought in the First Coalition War , for example in the battle near Breda . On 15 March 1800, he was First Lieutenant and went with the Dutch brigade in English services. There he became a captain on July 6, 1802 . In October 1814 he became major and battalion leader there and in the campaign of 1814/15 he fought in the siege of Mainz and the battles at Quatre-Bras and Belle Alliance . For Quatre-Bras he received the Dutch Wilhelms Order on August 11, 1815 . On September 1, 1815, he became a lieutenant colonel in the service of the Grand Ducal Nassau , but on February 12, 1816 he switched to Prussian , where he was a lieutenant colonel in the 34th Infantry Regiment , but on June 20, 1817 in the 18th Infantry -Regiment transferred. There he became colonel on June 18, 1825 , with a patent on June 19, 1825. On March 30, 1828, he was transferred to Torgau as 2nd commandant. There he received on January 18, 1836 the Red Eagle 4th grade plus on 30 March 1836 the character as a major general . On January 18, 1839 he received the Order of the Red Eagle 3rd class with ribbon and on June 11, 1839 he became major general with a patent on March 30, 1836. On March 11, 1843 he received his departure with the character of lieutenant general with a Pension of 1750 thalers and the Order of the Red Eagle 2nd class with oak leaves . He died on May 6, 1844 in Torgau and was buried there on May 9.

In 1839, the 1st Commandant of Torgau General von Quadt wrote in his assessment: Eich a very good, well-thinking and educated man who, despite his old age, is in the best of health and still shows a rare hardiness. He combines a tireless activity in fulfilling his duties incumbent on him, so that up to now he has sufficiently fulfilled his position. Here he has won general love and respect.

family

He married Anna Friederike Cäcilie Heloise Bach on July 17, 1825 in Fraustadt (* May 30, 1799, † September 23, 1825), the daughter of the Fraustadt pastor Jakob Bach. The couple had two sons:

  • Albrecht Emil Oskar (born December 28, 1823), second lieutenant in the 29th Infantry Regiment, said goodbye on June 13, 1850
  • Friedrich Wilhelm August (born September 18, 1825 - † September 30, 1825)
