Karl Ludwig Friedrich Konstantin Albert Theodor Freiherr von Quadt and Hüchtenbruck (born March 3, 1781 in Bergen op Zoom , † May 2, 1868 in Bögge house near Hamm) was a Prussian infantry general , governor of Breslau and master of Bögge house near Hamm .

Life

origin

Constantine came from the old knightly noble family Quadt . His parents were the Dutch major general Otto Ludwig von Quadt von Hüchtenbruck (1739-1793) and his wife Charlotte Elisabeth, née Freiin van Heeckeren van Brandsenburg (* October 5, 1744, † April 8, 1804). His father had fought under King Friedrich II in the Seven Years' War and had then entered Dutch service. His brother Ludwig von Quadt von Hüchtenbruck became a Prussian lieutenant general.

Military career

Quadt first attended schools in Utrecht and Herzogenbusch . On March 1, 1793, he went to the Dutch service and joined his father's regiment as a Junker . There he became an ensign on April 25, 1793 . During the First Coalition War he fought in the sieges of Maulbuge, Menin and Ypres, the battles at Breda and Roucq and the storm on Wervicq. On June 12, 1795 he took his leave and on April 2, 1796 went to an English free corps to fight the French. On October 20, 1798, he switched to Prussian services and was employed as an ensign in the infantry regiment of Prince Louis Ferdinand. With a patent from January 4, 1803, Quadt was promoted to second lieutenant on January 8, 1803 . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Auerstedt in 1806 and was captured with the surrender of Magdeburg. On July 7, 1807 he was put on half pay.

After the Peace of Tilsit , it was not until June 2, 1810 that Quadt was aggregated to the 2nd West Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 7 . On December 4, 1810, he was promoted to prime lieutenant of the army and on June 6, 1811, he was aggregated to the normal infantry battalion. On October 2, 1811, he was promoted to staff captain of the army and on February 20, 1813, he joined the Leib Grenadier Battalion as captain and company commander, where he became leader of the Jäger Detachment on March 1, 1813 . On October 13, 1813, he came as a major and battalion commander in the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot . During the Wars of Liberation he was wounded in the Battle of Großgörschen and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. Quadt took part in the battles near Bautzen , Heynau , Leipzig and Paris and the siege of Landau. He was wounded near Paris and received the Iron Cross 1st Class on April 9, 1814.

On May 14, 1815 he came as a commander in the 13th Infantry Regiment and on October 3, 1815 promoted to lieutenant colonel. From December 12, 1815, he was employed as commander of the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot and in this capacity he was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1823 with a patent from April 5, 1823 . In 1825 he received the service cross and on November 22, 1830 the Order of St. John . On March 30, 1732, he was commissioned to lead the 2nd Guard Landwehr Brigade. On March 30, 1834 Quadt was promoted to major general and on November 26, 1834 awarded the Russian Order of St. Stanislaus, First Class. On March 30, 1838 he was appointed First Commandant of Torgau and at the same time charged with commanding the 6th Division . On September 10, 1840 he was appointed division commander and on April 7, 1842 promoted to lieutenant general. On September 26, 1843, he received the Order of St. Anne, 1st Class with diamonds. On April 26, 1846, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him the diamonds for the Order of the Red Eagle First Class on his 50th anniversary in service . On March 4, 1848, he was appointed governor of Breslau, and on June 6, 1846, he received his retirement as a general of the infantry with a pension.

During the mobilization of 1850 , Quadt served as the commanding general of the Deputy VII Army Corps . He died on May 2, 1868 at Bögge House near Hamm.

Quadt married on December 2, 1815 at Haus Heyde near Unna Sophie von Bodelschwingh (* September 4, 1791, † May 10, 1855), a sister of Minister Karl von Bodelschwingh . The couple had several children:
