The Schaflahnernock ( 2703 m slm , Italian Cima della Pecore ) is a mountain in the Zillertal Alps . It is south of the Nevesjoch the first summit in the Mühlwalder ridge, which separates the Mühlwalder valley in the southwest from the Weißenbachtal in the northeast. About 700 meters south of the Schaflahnernock is the White Wall ( 2717 m slm ), the highest peak on the ridge.
The mountain is considered a very good vantage point. The mountain is best known, however, because on September 22nd, 1902, Johann Niederwieser from Sand in Taufers , known as “Stabeler”, one of the most famous mountain guides in the Ahrntal valley , fell fatally there.
Alpinism
From the Chemnitzer Hütte in the Nevesjoch, the Schaflahnernock can be reached in 1–1¼ hours on a marked trail that begins south of the hut. After a few minutes you will reach a grassy depression framed by rocks, where the hut's water intake is located. There the path turns sharply to the left and gains height in many bends over a scree slope. Finally, the trail leads over rocky terrain and unstable blocks to the summit cross.
