The Mühlwalder Tal ( Italian: Valle dei Molini ), also simply called Mühlwald , is a mountain valley in the South Tyrolean part of the Zillertal Alps . It branches off from the Tauferer Tal initially to the west and finally leads northwards to the Zillertal main ridge , where it is called Lappachtal in its last section . It is drained by the Mühlwald stream . The Neves reservoir located at the end of the valley and the Mühlwalder reservoir in the middle section of the valley are used to generate electricity.

The mountain ridges surrounding the Mühlwalder valley, in which the Edelrauthütte and the Chemnitzer Hütte represent bases for mountaineers, can be divided into three parts. The upper end behind the valley head is dominated by pronounced and glaciated high peaks of the Zillertal main ridge, which forms the state border with Austria , including the Hohen Weißzint ( 3371  m ), the Großer Möseler ( 3480  m ) and the Turnerkamp ( 3418  m ). A long side ridge begins at the Hohen Weißzint and delimits the Mühlwalder Valley on the west side to the Pfitscher Valley , Pfunderer Valley and on the south side to the Pustertal . Another side ridge, which branches off at Turnerkamp, separates the Mühlwalder from the Weißenbachtal to the east and north and ends at the Speikboden massif, which dominates the valley exit .

The most important settlements in the valley are Mühlwald in the middle and Lappach in the upper part of the valley, both of which belong to the municipality of Mühlwald . Parts of the valley exit at Mühlen in Taufers , however, are administratively in the municipality of Sand in Taufers .
