Annual memory |
The Neves reservoir (also: Neveser See , Italian: Lago di Neves ) is located in the Zillertal Alps at the upper end of the Mühlwald valley near Lappach ( Mühlwald municipality ). It is surrounded by the mountains Hoher Weißzint ( 3371 m ), Großer Möseler ( 3479 m ) and Turnerkamp ( 3418 m ). Before the damming, the head of the valley was formed by a wide, flat alpine floor. The dam (type: arch dam ) was built from 1960 to 1964; the crown height is 94 m and the water level is approx. 1860 m.
The reservoir can be reached from Oberlappach on a toll road. The small toll station is located shortly after leaving the town behind the only double turn. The road from the toll station is extremely narrow and up to 22% steep with tight and barely manageable curves. In the main season, however, traffic lights from the toll station to the dam wall are guaranteed. The difference in altitude is 1004 m. Particular caution is required because of the risk of falling rocks. There is a large number of parking spaces at the lake. The dam can be climbed from May to October between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. A hiking trail leads around the lake.
