Ludwig Freiherr von Quadt von Hüchtenbruck (born December 9, 1779 in Arnhem , † November 8, 1849 in Düsseldorf ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of the Mainz fortress .

Life

origin

Ludwig came from the old knightly noble family Quadt . His parents were the Dutch major general Otto Ludwig von Quadt von Hüchtenbruck (1739-1793) and his wife Charlotte Elisabeth Freiin van Heeckeren van Brandsenburg (* October 5, 1744, † April 8, 1804). His father had fought under King Friedrich II in the Seven Years' War and then went into Dutch service. His brother Constantine was promoted to general of the infantry .

Military career

Quadt came to the inheritance holder of the Netherlands as a page in 1787 . On January 10, 1794, he entered the Dutch service and on December 9 of the same year he joined the Dutch footguard as an ensign with lieutenant rank . In the First Coalition War he fought against France in 1794 in the battles near Dordrecht and Briel. On June 5, 1795 he went into English service with a Dutch emigre corps. On October 10, 1798, he switched to Prussian service and was employed as a second lieutenant in the “von Schladen” infantry regiment . In 1805 he was transferred as an adjutant to the grenadier battalion "von Brostel", which was composed of the grenadier companies of the regiments "von Wedell" and "von Lettow". During the Fourth Coalition War , Quadt fought in the Battle of Jena . In the battle near Lübeck he was captured and then made inactive.

On February 5, 1810, Quadt came to the infantry as a first lieutenant , and on March 18, 1810, he joined the 2nd West Prussian Infantry Regiment . With this regiment he took part in the campaign against Russia on the side of France in 1812 and fought near Olau, Eckau, Ruhenthal, Friedrichstadt and Garossenkrug. For the campaign he received the order Pour le Mérite on October 18, 1812 .

On February 15, 1813 Quadt was promoted to staff captain, came on March 27, 1813 in the adjutantage and acted as adjutant to the youngest son of the Prince of Orange. On August 17, 1813, he was transferred to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot as a company commander and promoted to major on December 5, 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation , Quadt fought near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden , Kulm , Liebertwolkwitz , Laon , Ligny and Belle Alliance . He also took part in the capture of Soissons , the blockade of Laon and the skirmishes at Antwerp , Soissons, Gilly and Meudan. On April 3, 1813 he was appointed battalion commander in the 3rd East Prussian Infantry Regiment and on October 4, 1814 transferred to the Emperor Alexander Grenadier Regiment . On March 31, 1815, he came as a commander in the 28th Infantry Regiment .

After the war he was on 30 March 1817 Patent of April 23, 1817 to lieutenant colonel , and on March 30, 1824 Patent of 6 April 1824. Colonel promoted. This was followed from March 30, 1832 to March 29, 1833 as a commander of the 4th Infantry Regiment. Subsequently, Quadt was appointed commander of the 13th Infantry Brigade and in this capacity was promoted to major general on March 31, 1835. On November 4, 1837, he was appointed inspector of the federal fortresses and Quadt himself came to Mainz fortress on October 8, 1839 as commander. In addition, he received from November 2, 1839 an allowance of 1,800 thalers. On October 20, 1842 he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Dutch Lions and on March 22, 1843 he was promoted to Lieutenant General. To celebrate his 50th anniversary in service, Quadt was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle 1st Class with Oak Leaves on January 10, 1844 . On October 3, 1844, he received his departure with a pension of 4,000 thalers. He died on November 8, 1849 in Düsseldorf.

In his assessment from the year 1815, General von Pirch II wrote : “Combines all qualities to command a regiment. His tireless activity and his knowledge have a beneficial effect on the regiment. The Major von Quadt is indisputably one of those staff officers who are suitable for higher positions and who can preside over them with distinctions. "

Quadt married Jenny Eugenie von Trebra on March 21, 1822 in Bendorf (born January 28, 1803 - † October 25, 1876). The couple had several children:
