Anders Bratholm (born January 7, 1920 in Oslo ; † July 8, 2010 ) was a Norwegian lawyer and university professor .

biography

After attending school, he studied law and passed the legal state examination in 1948 . During his studies, between 1945 and 1947, he was the editor of the Lillehammer daily Dagningen .

Bratholm was appointed professor at the Chair of Law at the University of Oslo in 1960 and was a professor there until his retirement in 1990. In addition, he was chairman of the commission for criminal law and director of the institute for criminology and criminal law. He has also been the author of several legal textbooks and co-chair of the university press and the Norwegian Committee of the International Helsinki Association .

Bratholm became known to the general public in the early 1980s when he was first chairman of the commission of inquiry into Reitgjerdet Sykehus (Reitgjerdet Hospital) in 1980 and then of the investigative committee into police violence in 1981.

Even after his retirement , he continued to work as an author of legal publications and between 1991 and 1998, together with Magnus Matningsdal, edited a three-volume legal commentary on Norwegian criminal law.

In 1963 he became a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences ( Det Norske Videnskaps-Akademi ). He was also awarded the Order of Saint Olav (First Class Knight) for his services .

In addition, in 1986, he was the prize for freedom of speech ( Fritt Ord honnørpris ) and in 1990 the price of humanism of Humanities and ethical Association awarded.
