Not so Hultén

Anders Hultén (born January 5, 1757 in Snavlunda in the Swedish landscape of Närke , † April 19, 1831 ) was a Swedish mathematician, physicist and astronomer.

Hultén studied in Uppsala , received his doctorate in philosophy in 1785, was also a lecturer in physics in 1787 and became professor of astronomy in Greifswald in 1792 . He edited u. a. the astronomical part of the Swedish-Pomeranian-Rügian state calendar for the years 1796 to 1808.

When the French occupied Swedish Pomerania , Hultén fled to Sweden in 1807 and became a professor of dogmatics and moral theology in Uppsala in 1808 and doctor of theology in 1809. Hultén wrote treatises on astronomy and mathematics. In later life he devoted himself exclusively to theology.

Hultén was elected a foreign member of the Royal Academy of Sciences in 1797 and was one of the resident members from 1808. In 1815 and 1824 he was elected rector of Uppsala University.
