Andor Kertész

Andor Kertész (born February 19, 1929 in Gyula , † April 3, 1974 in Debrecen ) was a Hungarian mathematician who was a professor in Debrecen and later at the University of Halle and studied algebra.

Life

His father Lajos (1899–1974) was a music teacher and cantor of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Gyula . Kertész studied in Debrecen until 1952 and received his doctorate there in 1954 under László Rédei . In 1957 he received his habilitation, and from 1963 he was a professor at the University of Debrecen. 1962 to 1964 and 1968 to 1971 he was visiting professor at the University of Halle.

He worked on Abelian groups , ring and module theory (especially Artin's rings) as well as associations and groupoids. He introduced a radical term into module theory.

He became a member of the Leopoldina in 1968 .

Kertesz wrote a biography of Georg Cantor .
