Andora (* 7. June 1958 in East Berlin ; bourgeois Andreas Hoge ) is a German artist and painter of pop art .

Life

Andora painting the Proton rocket

Andora grew up in simple circumstances with six siblings in the GDR . His father was a house painter, his mother a cook. After finishing school in Berlin-Friedrichshain, he worked in various professions from 1977 to 1980, including cemetery gardener, stoker, sexton and station helper. In 1980 he was expatriated from the GDR. So he came to West Berlin , completely incapable , where he completed a technical college degree as a social worker until 1984 .

He came to art on side roads. From 1983 he painted everyday situations, inspired by newspaper reports and implemented in neo-expressionist panels, in oil on canvas. From 1986 to 1988 he painted shoes in his own design. Alfred Biolek discovered this in a magazine and promoted his career. Andora painted selected everyday objects such as shoes, watches, champagne bottles. In 1988 he designed the winter sports collections for the Reusch company.

In June 1988 Reemtsma AG Hamburg approached the artist and asked him to paint a racing car. The West World was created between 1989 and 1991 - the design of the Formula 1 racing car Zakspeed 871 and an AMG-Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II of the German Touring Car Championship in cooperation with the WEST brand as his most complex works of art to date .

From 1984 to 1992 he lived mainly in Hamburg . During this time, his first catalog, German Stocks # 1, was created, which reflects his artistic work up to 1992.

Between 1992 and 1999 Andora commuted between New York and Moscow . Following the WEST project, he painted a rocket at the request of Russian space travel in 1992, which was then launched into space. So he is the only artist so far whose art orbits the earth in space. Fascinated by science, he completed a cosmonaut training parallel to his creative work .

In 1999 he returned to Hamburg and devoted himself to various projects, such as the design of porcelain for Fürstenberg . Many works and objects were created between 2000 and 2006, which are summarized in the subsequent catalog German Stocks # 2. In mid-2007 he moved to Austria and the Wiener Tagebücher emerged, an art series of a different kind. During this phase, the artist dealt with a different art style and with ceramics. From 2009 to 2011 he commuted between Hanover and Hamburg.

Since 2012 he has lived and worked in his native Berlin.

Art style pop art

One of his first projects as an artist was shoes with colorful figures. Red, green, blue faces, sometimes with two, sometimes with five eyes. Later he designed other everyday objects, such as mopeds or Henry Maske's boxing coat. His artistic repertoire also includes the design of pictures, collages, ceramics, installations, sculptures and fashion. His works on US dollar bills have shaped his artistic career . He was so enthusiastic about Donald Trump with his dollar work that he invited him to Atlantic City and bought a picture of him, which at that time was already worth 50,000 DM. The then US government reacted sharply to the Berlin artist and his way of combining the symbol for capitalism (the US dollar) and the lightness of art (Pop Art). He was banned from entering the country, which is extremely painful for the artist, who was then living in New York. There is currently direct contact between Andora's management and the US authorities regarding a pardon.
