András Keve

András Keve (born November 10, 1909 in Budapest ; † March 30, 1984 there ; actually András Kleiner , also András Keve-Kleiner ) was a Hungarian ornithologist .

Life

Even before graduating from high school, András Kleiner dealt intensively with the bird life of the Bakony Forest and Lake Balaton . In 1930 he gave his first lecture at the XI. Zoological Congress in Padua . At first he studied law at the request of his parents, but then received his doctorate in 1935 in the field of geology-paleontology-zoology. Since 1934 he had already worked temporarily as a research assistant at the Biological Institute, in 1939 he became a research assistant there. In 1942 he changed his family name to "Keve". In 1946 he became a private lecturer at the Hungarian Ornithological Institute, where he remained employed until his retirement in 1974. In 1953 he was named " candidate of the sciences ". In the meantime he also worked on a scholarship in England, Austria and Switzerland. During his retirement he worked for the Hungarian Natural Science Museum in Budapest.

As an ornithologist, Keve devoted himself primarily to the planned research of the Hungarian bird world, on which he wrote several standard works. In particular, he dealt with Lake Balaton, the Bakony Forest and the Danube floodplains . Further research focuses were the fine systematics and the nutrition of different bird species. He was also active in numerous other areas such as molecular biology and bird protection. Keve has published over 500 specialist publications and was a member of numerous international ornithological associations, congresses and conferences. He has received numerous awards for his efforts in bird protection.
