André-Hubert Fournet

André-Hubert Fournet ( German: Andreas Hubert Fournet ) (born December 6, 1752 in Saint-Pierre-de-Maillé , France , †  May 13, 1834 in La Puye , France) was a Catholic priest and founder of the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross from Saint Andrew . He was canonized by the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

André-Hubert Fournet was ordained a priest in 1776 and was pastor in Saint-Pierre-de-Maillé. After the outbreak of the French Revolution , he refused to take the oath on the civil constitution , but continued to exercise his priestly service. In 1792 his bishop ordered him to flee to Spain . He returned to France in 1797 and founded the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of St. Andrew ( Andrew Sisters ) in 1807, strongly influenced by St. Johanna Elisabeth Bichier des Ages , which were dedicated to teaching and nursing. Fournet was superior to this congregation until 1832 .

André-Hubert Fournet was on May 16, 1926 by Pope Pius XI. beatified and on June 4, 1933 by Pope Pius XI. canonized . His feast day is May 13th .
