André Beckers

André Beckers (born October 10, 1927 in Bressoux , today a district of Liège , † June 5, 2021 ) was a Belgian cartoonist .

Career

André Beckers studied at the Liège Academy of Art. As early as 1942 he drew his first comic in the scout magazine Cocorico . Georges Troisfontaines hired him at his World's Press agency, where he assisted Victor Hubinon in the first episode of Buck Danny and in Rik Junior . In Spirou he was able to publish technical drawings. Influenced by Buck Danny , he created his own aviator comic with Mac Tomson .

He worked for the daily La Meuse for several years . It wasn't until 1954 that he started drawing comics again. During this time he also worked for Yvan Chéron's International Press. He went into business for himself and worked for the French press. Eventually he succeeded Will as artistic director of Tintin .

A serious car accident in 1961 practically ended his career as a draftsman. He only published short stories and switched to writing. Otherwise he worked as an interior decorator and opened a drawing school.
