André Duroméa

André Duroméa (born September 5, 1917 in Le Havre , † March 16, 2011 in Dieppe , Département Seine-Maritime ) was a French politician and resistance fighter .

Life

After training as a locksmith , Duroméa became a member of the French Communist Party (FKP) in 1938 .

After the occupation of France by the Wehrmacht in 1940, he joined the Francs-tireurs et partisans in 1941 and fought in south-west France. Duroméa achieved the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the partisan organization before he was arrested and deported to the Neuengamme concentration camp . From there he was brought to the Bahrsplate concentration camp, which was guarded by naval soldiers , and had to do forced labor for the Deutsche Schiff- und Maschinenbau Aktiengesellschaft on the AG Weser .

After the liberation he returned to his hometown Le Havre, where he sat on the city council for the FKP from 1947 to 1959. From 1958 to 1976 he was a member of the General Council of the Seine-Maritime Department for the canton of Le Havre-3 . In 1965 the communist mayor of Le Havre, René Cance , appointed him his first alderman. In 1971 Duroméa was elected Mayor of Le Havre in the first ballot. In 1977 and 1986 he was re-elected in the first ballot and in 1989 in the second ballot. In 1994 he handed over the office to his first alderman Daniel Colliard .

From 1976 to 1986 and from 1988 to 1993 Duroméa was also a member of the National Assembly , and from 1986 to 1988 he was a member of the Senate .

  • On February 28, 1949, André Duroméa was made a knight for his military achievements during the Second World War , an officer on April 2, 1999 and commander of the Légion d'honneur on January 1, 2006 .
  • On May 19, 2012, the newly laid out beach promenade Promenade André Duroméa was inaugurated in Le Havre by the mayor Édouard Philippe ( UMP ) and the Communist MP Daniel Paul in the presence of the widow Duroméa and his daughter.
