André Lafosse

André Lafosse (born March 13, 1890 in Marly-le-Roi ; † 1975 ) was a French trombonist, music teacher and composer.

Lafosse expanded the repertoire for trombonists with music educational works, his own compositions and arrangements for the instrument. In 1938 he was one of the first musicians to record music from the Renaissance period on the bass trumpet. After the Second World War he played jazz in the Bœuf sur le toit orchestra with Django Reinhardt , with whom he also made recordings in 1947.

In 1948 Lafosse succeeded Henri Couillaud as professor of trombone at the Conservatoire de Paris . He held the position until 1960. His students included trombonists such as Vinko Globokar , Marc Steckar and Norman J. Hunt . He was also solo trombonist at the Paris Opera and at the Lamoureux Concerts . Lafosse published several trombone textbooks. His brother Marcel LaFosse was a trumpeter with the Boston Symphony Orchestra .
